It is an unfortunate reality that many of us work in jobs that require us to be on our cell phones a lot. I don’t mean to be insensitive, but I have a job at nypd that requires me to be on my phone the whole day.
I get it. I do too. The issue is that these jobs are very difficult to get out of, and I don’t see a solution to that. I do however think that working from home should be a thing of the past, as it would save us so much time and money.
I think part of the problem is that nypd is trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. The issue in question is that as technology changes, the way we work needs to change, as well. As one of the reasons we work from home is that I can be at work and still be able to use my cell phone. We also have a good system for scheduling meetings with people who can’t be in the office, and for other things like email.
Most of us are so used to the idea of working from home that the idea of it being a thing of the past is almost laughable. If you don’t own a cellphone, you have no way of staying connected to the office, and you aren’t familiar with all the ways in which we work.
Jobs at nypd is a way to work from home. There is no contract that says you have to be in the office by an agreed-upon time. We are flexible and we don’t expect our employees to be in the office unless it is absolutely necessary. To the best of my knowledge, there are no work-at-home jobs that specifically require an internet connection.
That said, there are some work-at-home jobs that do require an internet connection. At least one of them is actually a work-at-home job, one that involves getting home from the office by a predetermined hour. We are working on a couple of them right now.
