At least that’s what I learned from two years ago. I can’t decide how I like my park rangers, but I can tell you that they are great.
In California, the Park Ranger’s job is to keep the parks in tune with the community and enforce rules and regulations. I guess you could say they are the equivalent of a police officer, except they aren’t the one out “stopping” you. They are simply enforcing the public, “You can’t park here, you must stop” kind of thing. So if you want to be a park ranger let me know, I’ll give you a free ride.
I love the idea of park rangers because we get to see where the rules are applied, and what the rules get enforced at. They also get to see more often than a police officer, which means they get to see more people. And they get to see more often than a civilian.
Park rangers are basically people who enforce the rules to keep the public safe. They enforce speed limits, they enforce parking tickets, and they enforce all the other things that parks departments do that are basically police functions. The only thing that park rangers actually protect is the public from themselves, which means they help keep the public safe. The job of a park ranger is not to protect the public from themselves, but to make sure the public is safe.
Park rangers can earn between $80 and $160 an hour depending on the type of job they do. The vast majority of park rangers are law enforcement officers and firefighters, so the pay is very low. The best ones can earn over $200 an hour, but that’s still nothing to sneeze at.
If you want to earn more money, you have to work at a park ranger. The job description of a park ranger is the exact opposite of the job description of a police officer. Police officers protect people, parks rangers protect the public.
What are the advantages of the position? The most obvious is that you are able to earn a lot more money in the same amount of time. The second main advantage is that park rangers are typically paid based on the number of hours a day that they spend protecting the public. A park ranger can work up to 6 days a week, but they normally only work between 4 and 5 hours per day, so their pay scales in the park are determined by the number of hours they spend on patrol.
Park rangers can earn upwards of $50,000 per year, which is far more than the average worker in the state. You may be surprised to learn that the average park ranger’s salary is $17,000 per year.
Park rangers are the last people you would expect to earn such a high salary. They’re the ones who enforce the rules and take the initiative in making sure that everyone knows what the rules are. They’re the ones who are usually the first ones to spot and report suspicious activity. They’re the ones who are always the first to pull over cars and make sure they don’t run a red light.
